10 TV Shows Everyone Should Watch At Least Once

7. Chernobyl

Next up is the one that took home many an award and delivered a powerfully relevant message on political mishandling and disinformation. Chernobyl recounts the real events of the worst nuclear accident in history, and the efforts taken to stifle and cover up the negligence that led to the catastrophe.

The story takes place from several different perspectives, including the director of the Kurchatov Institute (Jared Harris), the Council of Ministers Chairman (Stellan SkarsgÄrd) and emergency workers on the ground. With these viewpoints, the onset of radioactive fallout and the evacuation of the city is conveyed in painful, unfiltered detail across its five-episode length.

Powerful and brutal in its portrayal of real world events, Chernobyl creates a grim depiction of the hellish historical.

Much of the series was written based on eyewitness accounts in Pripryat alongside a massive amount of research. Its only negative is a couple of historical inaccuracies; other than that, it's a short yet deeply harrowing watch. Its greater message, the cost of lies, speaks volumes of our own modern political turmoil.

Series creator Craig Mazin is now set to create a television series about The Last of Us; if it's as good as this mini-series was, we're all in for a treat.
