10 TV Shows Just Saved From Cancellation

Lee Daniels' Empire isn't quite the megahit it used to be. The musical drama was a huge success when it first launched back in 2017, with the Season 1 finale being watched by around 17m people, and around 16m coming back for the Season 2 premiere.

It's fallen a long way since then, with Season 5 averaging around 4.5m viewers in total. That's still enough to make it one of Fox's most popular dramas, but does equally suggest a show that's on its way outward. When coupled with the controversy around Jussie Smollett that broke earlier this year, it looked like the series might be done for.

It sort of is, really, but Fox are gearing up to give it a big send-off. They cancelled spin-off show Star in part so that all of the focus could go on Empire's sixth and final season.
