10 TV Shows That Almost Had Much Better Endings

8. The More Ambiguous Ross & Rachel - Friends

The Ending: After ten years of living across the hall from one another, Monica and Chandler decide to move away, and Ross and Rachel - the definitive will they/won't they? television couple - finally get back together. The gang go for one last coffee at Central Perk.

The Alternative Ending: Though admittedly a bit of a downer, the alternative ending - according to show creator David Crane, anyway - would have avoided the scene in which Ross and Rachel got back together in such a definitive way. Speaking on the ending, he said:

"Do you get Ross and Rachel back together? And at first we were like, 'That seems so expected.' Maybe not. Maybe we do some kind of vague hope for the future."

Yes, Crane genuinely toyed with the idea of not having Ross and Rachel get back together as a fully-fledged couple during the climax of the show, which seems a bit bleak for Friends, yes, but wouldn't that have been a whole lot more realistic, a tad braver, and more worthy of discussion? Probably.
