10 TV Shows That Chose The Wrong Main Character

2. The Walking Dead - Rick Grimes

Who It Was

The Walking Dead isn't afraid to kill off characters by the bucketload. However, one of the characters safest from the chopping block is the one who probably needs to go the most.

Rick Grimes currently suffers from the same problem as Oliver Queen, they're both stuck in the same kind of holding pattern. Since the end of Season 2, Rick has spent every season bouncing between two extremes. His entire plot seems to revolve around him either being too eager or not eager enough to kill people and he constantly slides between the two.

Who It Should Have Been

The far more interesting character is Darryl Dixon. There's a good reason Darryl has become such a beloved character (apart from Norman Reedus' dreamy eyes that is), he's gone through more character development than anyone else on the show.

He's grown from white-trash unlikely hero to a core member of the group and Rick's second in command. That's the story that should be at the centre of the Walking Dead, someone who's role in society was completely changed once the apocalypse got rid of the old rules.

Plus he'd probably make a way better leader than Rick, whose plans have a suspiciously high mortality rate for someone who's meant to be an expert.
