10 TV Shows That Completely Wasted Great Characters
1. New Girl - Daisy
Another appearance for the much-maligned weekly sitcom
love interest, doomed to appear for a mere episode or two before being
forgotten for good by everyone onscreen. But damn if this one didn’t sting a
little more than most, and it’s for more than one reason.
New Girl never really worked out what to do about resident weirdo Winston’s love life for its first few seasons, flirting with giving the loveable oddball girlfriends before deciding he was too strange for such a conventional fate. Besides, the show had bigger fish to fry, given the fact that by the show’s second season the chemistry between leads Jake Johnson and Zooey Deschanel was at its most explosive.
However in “Cooler”, the pivotal instalment wherein Jess and Nick’s on-and-off flirtations finally manifested in a kiss, Winston was paired with Brenda Song’s Diasy, a kooky fun-loving party girl perfect for his strange and eccentric vibe.
The couple gelled, their contributions elevated an already-great episode to classic status, and for her efforts Daisy got—dumped two episodes later when she turned out to be a two-timing schemer. Nice, New Girl. Sure, we’re glad Nasim Pedrad got to give Winston’s eventual love interest some real character, but what did Daisy’s barely-glimpsed effervescent self do to deserve being done this dirty?
