Believe it or not, Superman has had a history with TV outside cartoons and €œSmallville.€ From 1993-1997, fans watched Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher play Clark Kent and Lois Lane in €œLois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.€ The show primarily focused on Lois€™ relationship with Clark and Superman (she eventually found out they were the same person), but still kept in touch with its superhero roots and cycled through many storylines involving the Man of Steel€™s exploits. Unfortunately, the show was cancelled before several of the plot points could be resolved. The show€™s final episode had Lois and Clark finding a mysterious infant in Clark€™s old bassinet, and series executive producer Brad Buckner revealed after the show€™s end that the baby was Kryptonian, and that he was sent to Clark and Lois for protection. If DC Comics were to make a €œSeason 5,€ this would be the perfect place to follow up, especially considering that the fourth season had Clark discovering the existence of a Kryptonian colony. There was also the issue of the mysterious government organization Bureau 39, who had been able to get a hold of the spaceship that brought Superman to Earth. This shadowy group was never elaborated upon during the series, only that it had some connection with the criminal organization Intergang. Considering that most €œmythology€ type shows have organizations that are discreetly influencing the events in the show, it only makes sense for the comic to expand upon just what Bureau 39 was.
