8. Caprica
For those who watched the revived Battlestar Galactica series, it was obvious that once that show was over, there really wasnt a way to do a follow-up series. So, the only natural progression was to go back in time. Thus, we were given Caprica, a show that explored the origins of how the Cylons of the Twelve Colonies were created. Right away it was clear this show was a different beast than its predecessor. Rather than focus on the survival of humanity, Caprica focused on the success of the colonies in what seemed like their most prosperous time ever. The main conflict was focused on the rivalry between the Graystones and the Adamas, but it was a slow moving series that didnt really pick up the pace until the last five episodes and by then it was too late. In the last five minutes of the show, we flash-forwarded five years into the shows future to see a glimpse of what was to come. The Adamas had a new son named Bill who was named after his brother who had been killed years before (little Bill would eventually command a little ship known as the Galactica). The Cylons have become a part of everyday life doing menial labor for the humans, although seeds of rebellion are being planted by priestess Clarice Willow. Finally, Zoe Graystones consciousness was placed inside what is essentially the first human-looking Cylon. Yes, the show has a good open ending that leaves a lot of room for interpretation, but there are still many unanswered questions. What specifically led the Cylons to rebel against humanity? How did we get from Zoe Graystones Cylon model to the models we seen in the first show? Did the Final Five ever have contact with Zoe? Even watching little Bill Adama go to school for the first time would be insightful.
