10 TV Shows That Deserve Feature Films
3. Fringe
The Premise: A special FBI division dedicated to fringe science investigates cases of an unexplained nature - many of which seem to lead back to one man, the disturbed but brilliant Walter Bishop. With the help of his son, Peter, Bishop helps unravel a mystery the man himself helped create decades earlier - and explores strange new worlds in doing so.
Why It Deserves The Feature Film Treatment: Fringe is that rare JJ Abrams series that ended on a perfect note after a solid five year run. It was a bittersweet ending, to be certain, but about as good as an ending as you'll ever find on television.
So why bring it back?
For a big screen adventure. Only that. Though Fringe's finale was one of the best you'll find in genre television, from day one, the Fringe production team has talked about bringing the cast back for another go. As good as the ending was, it was an open ending. Lovably mad scientist Walter Bishop takes off to the future, a sacrifice to save the universe, memories are rewritten, and what becomes of him, we never really know.
So there's just cause for a feature film - fans want to know Walter's fate. It was nearly perfect as it was - and really, only that one question needs to be answered. If you can get John Noble, Joshua Jackson, and the rest on board - do it. There aren't enough decent sci-fi movies these days anyway.
