10 TV Shows That Deserve Feature Films
2. The Walking Dead
The Premise: Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead comic adapted by AMC for the small screen, which sees Zombies (called Walkers) having overrun the planet, or at least America. A band of survivors comes together in this post apocalyptic world, led by former Sheriff's deputy Rick Grimes, plus quick thinking Glenn Rhee, the deadly katana wielding Michonne, and the tough as nails Daryl Dixon. That about sums it up, in case you've been under a rock these last few years.
Why It Deserves The Feature Film Treatment: The Walking Dead is a show that could easily sustain a movie, right in the middle of its series run, without skipping a beat. Like The X-Files before it, it has a story that could actually be greatly elevated by the exposure - and increased budget - that a feature film would give it.
In fact, it might even breathe new life into the series. There's still a ton of material in the comics to mine, and though AMC has been pretty lenient, a hard R version of The Walking Dead on the big screen could be pretty impressive (thank you, Deadpool, for making the R-rating obtainable again).
It might alienate a portion of the fan base (read: anyone unlucky enough to be stymied by the R rating), but given the strength of the series, there's little cause for concern. Picture Negan and Lucille on the big screen. Eep!
