Fewer real-life tragedies have been as exploited in the world of television as the 17th Century witch trials in Salem, Massachusetts.

At least 25 people died and you wanna keep making shows about it? What is wrong with you, TV industry?

Actually, don't answer that.

American Horror Story had a stab at Salem with their third anthology Coven, which tracked a group of Salem witch descendants to modern-day New Orleans.

One of the central mysteries to the series is who will become the next leader or "Supreme" of the coven, a position that eventually goes to Cordelia Foxx.

However, if you know your Mexican Neopaganism, then you'll have worked this out long before it was revealed.

Cordelia is played by Sarah Poulson, whose name in the credits appears next to a picture of a skeleton wearing some sort of headdress. This is the symbol for Santa Muerte, a cult religious figure often called the Queen of Witches.

If you know what the symbol means, then it's pretty obvious that Cordelia is going to become the next Supreme. However, unless you're a professor of theology with a very specific area of expertise, it probably wouldn't even cross your mind.
