6. Moon Knight
What Is It? Created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin, Moon Knight is frequently described as Marvel's Batman, but he's actually much closer to the pulp hero, The Shadow. Former Marine Marc Spector becomes a mercenary with his pilot, Jean-Paul Frenchie DuChamp. In Egypt, Spector is working for another mercenary, Raoul Bushman, and they find an ancient Egyptian temple uncovered by an archaeologist, Peter Alruane. After Bushman kills Alruane, Spector challenges him to combat, is defeated and left for dead. Hes discovered by a group of nomadic Egyptians who worship the moon god, Khonshu, and they bring Spector to the temple. Khonshu appears to Spector in a vision and offers to spare his life if he becomes the gods avatar on Earth. After defeating Bushman, Spector returns to the States with Frenchie and Alruanes daughter, Marlene. Using the money hes made from his mercenary work, he sets himself up with new identities, millionaire Steven Grant and cab driver Jake Lockley. He also creates a silver, cloaked costume and numerous weapons and gadgets, adopting the name Moon Knight. In addition, Spectors strength, reflexes, and endurance are enhanced, depending on the phases of the moon. And as time goes on, the various identities become multiple personalities.
How To Do It Right? This actually almost happened a few years ago. In an episode of Spike TVs short-lived Blade: The Series, Marc Spector was mentioned as an expert on werewolves (Moon Knight first appeared in Marvels Werewolf By Night series). A series was reportedly in development, but nothing ever came of it. But a Moon Knight TV show could be quite interesting, especially since you dont have to focus on superheroics. Spectors mental instability and various personalities means you could have quite a few episodes that dont deal at all with Moon Knight. And The WBs Arrow has shown you can do a serious and well-made vigilante series on network television, so this is really a no-brainer. The only hiccup might be Moon Knights sophisticated aircraft, the Mooncopter.
