10 TV Shows That Most Accurately Represent Britain

6. The Inbetweeners

Inbetweeners

Fresh Meat’s older/younger brother. Never has a show nailed the reality of adolescence in Britain better.

This coming-of-age comedy depicts a group of ‘lads’ going to school in suburban Britain, trying to fit in (hence the title) and, more often than not, failing to do so. The misadventures of the nerdy Will, sad romantic Simon, compulsive liar Jay and village idiot Neil show the lads navigating friendship, lad culture and girls, with the grace and decorum of most 17-year-old boys. The Inbetweeners is another show that underwent a painful American remake, which failed because it missed the point of the show. Whilst, much of the hilarity comes from the vulgar misguided outlook and opinions of the group, the show’s magic is in their tragic, typically British struggle to be cool. The show truly understood a generation.

The show spawned endless catch phrases, so just be wary of getting on a bus in Britain (those in the know will get that one).
