10 TV Shows That Peaked In Their First Season
1. Heroes
Heroes is basically the poster child for shows which peaked in their first seasons. However, it’s not so much that Season 1 offered unbeatable perfection as it is Season 2 utterly imploded and the series never recovered.
Infamously remembered as one of the biggest casualties of the Writer’s Guild Of America strike, it’s interesting to think what Heroes might have been had everything worked in their favour. Still, it does seem like it had gone all in on the first season, and dug itself into a bit of a hole.
It was such a great concept, but rather than go for a slow-build storyline which might have sustained it for years, it instead opted for a relentlessly paced first season which never let up for a second.
It made the first run full of absolutely gripping television, but it might just have damaged Heroes’ chances in the long run.
Despite the obviously surreal abilities the characters had, one of the show’s biggest selling points was that it told a realistic, character-driven story. Once it abandoned that, it was treading water. The attempts at blockbuster level stunts and special effects fell severely short too, and the once great show petered out.
