10 TV Shows That Peaked In Their First Season
2. Lost
Lost seemed to fall off a bit of a cliff with Season 2, but gradually recovered through Seasons 3 and 4, before finishing on a bit of a confusing note which jumped the shark a couple of times.
So while it peaked during Season 1, it certainly wasn’t a case of getting worse as it went on. Some could even argue that Season 3 and even 4 overtook it, but considering the massive press coverage the initial run gained, it felt like a unique television event.
Later seasons didn’t really come close to emulating that, so for that reason, the original run stands alone as the show’s peak.
Season 1 brought us much closer to the characters, letting us see how each of them ticked and setting up intriguing relationships between them. That build up wasn’t really delivered on in subsequent seasons though, as the show became increasingly about set pieces and twists.
It had incredible promise, but ultimately didn’t deliver on it. At the time, it was the most expensive pilot ever, and that certainly helped it hit the ground the running. While there’s some great episodes post Season 1, it’s fair to say that this momentum ultimately went to waste.
