7. Fox Aired The Episodes Out Of Order - Firefly
Here's a case that is in no way the fault of the cast or crew, but instead the network and their treatment of the series from the jump.
Joss Whedon's Firefly may be a much-loved cult classic TV show that become enough of a home video success to get its own cinematic spin-off, Serenity, but Fox really didn't give its original TV run much of a chance at all.
Fox made the extremely ill-advised decision to air the episodes out of order, believing that the pilot, "Serenity," wasn't a suitable start to the series, and instead reworked the planned second episode, "The Train Job," to act as a new pilot.
Except, this meant that the audience's introduction to this world and its colourful cast of characters felt awkward and unnatural, and to make matters worse, the original pilot was ultimately the 11th episode aired, which made no sense at all.
Oh, and Fox just straight-up didn't air the three final produced episodes after cancelling the show, seemingly mystified that audiences couldn't quite connect with an ambitious new series being aired out of order.
Thankfully the show flourished on DVD, where the episodes were presented in their correct order, but sadly the damage had already been done, as Firefly never got the multi-season run it so desperately deserved.
