10 TV Shows That Prove HBO Is Utterly Unbeatable

9. Entourage

entourage season 8 After Sex and the City ended, there was a gap in the market for a dramedy that featured a bunch of close friends navigating life from their privileged pedestal. Entourage is essentially the male version of Sex and the City but with half a dozen celebrity cameos an episode including Mark Wahlberg, Tom Brady, Eminem, Adrian Peterson, Jessica Alba and James Cameron. About a young actor and his closest friends trying to make it big in Hollywood, the show shouldn't work and could easily become smug but the infinitely likeable performances from the cast, in particular Kevin Dillon as struggling actor Johnny Chase make this one of the funniest shows of the last decade. One of the most quotable TV shows ever and not an episode goes by without a sharp one-liner, usually spewed from the mouth of super-agent Ari Gold. Entourage captured a market that is very hard to crack and secured a great, stable audience for a very long time as the jokes kept coming, even though the last two seasons were a decline on the sublime six that came before it. A movie version has just been given the green-light, signifying that one of HBO's most popular shows still has some life left.
