5. Six Feet Under

Written with the same pen behind the Oscar winning American Beauty, Six Feet Under is a dark, dysfunctional dramedy unlike anything seen on TV before. Despite the setting being a funeral home, it is a wonderful watch and thoroughly deserves its critical acclaim. Six Feet Under broke new ground in regards to homosexuality on television as David Fisher played by Michael C Hall is conflicted about his sexuality and for the first time a real and accurate portrayal of homosexuality was on American television. Six Feet Under is compelling and unique and could only be the brainchild of a genius and only HBO would be daring enough to commission a show like this.
