10 TV Shows That REALLY Shouldn't Have Worked
7. Sleepy Hollow
It’s fair to say that the best TV shows are complex, with multiple threads running concurrently, giving shows depth whilst building towards something bigger. However, with Sleepy Hollow the phrase “a hat on a hat” initially seemed more than apt.
Sleepy Hollow’s premise has more mythical cross-overs than a Lord of the Rings edition of Dungeons and Dragons. The show loosely follows Washington Irving’s short story ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’, with further inspiration from his other tale ‘Rip Van Winkle’.
However, within the pilot alone viewers meet Ichabod Crane (a double agent for George Washington), who wakes up in the present day because someone has raised the Headless Horseman (one of two Horseman in this list). This Horseman however is one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, with the pilot also introducing viewers to George Washington’s magic Bible, multiple dimensions, Biblical Witnesses (see Book of evelations for more details) and yes all this is in the pilot episode.
But it’s fair to say that despite its cluttered premise fans really took to Sleepy Hollow, with its well-produced visuals and action packed storylines making the show a firm fan favourite, despite the show never truly being sensational.
Perhaps a hat on a hat could become the fashion. It worked for Sleep Hollow after all.
