10 TV Shows That RECAST Major Characters

7. Mason Verger - Hannibal

Crisis On Infinite Earths Batwoman
NBC

Mason Verger showed up in NBC's Hannibal TV series during its second season. A character from both the novel and film, fans were intrigued as to how the Hannibal antagonist would make his presence felt on the show.

Though the character is known for having a disfigured face in the source material, the show introduced him before his infamous therapy session with Hannibal Lecter took place, allowing us to see how his sadistic path led him down that route. And actor Michael Pitt was nothing short of brilliant in the role, bringing the character's eccentricities and intimidating qualities to life in convincing fashion.

Unfortunately, he decided not to return in Season 3 and actor Joe Anderson ultimately replaced him. It didn't end up affecting the show at all because Anderson stepped into the role after Lecter influenced Mason to disfigure himself and thus, the change in actor was never obvious as Anderson did an incredible job of picking up where Pitt left off.
