10 TV Shows That Suffered A Sophomore Slump

4. The Walking Dead

13 Reasons Why Season 2
AMC

It's one of the most-watched and best-rated shows on TV, but even The Walking Dead's hardcore fans will readily admit that the second season was a bit of a low point. In case you've blocked it out of your memory, this was the season when Rick and friends arrived at Hershel's farm and spent many long, tedious hours searching for a little girl who was later revealed to be dead the whole time. And that's pretty much all that happened.

To call some episodes of season two of TWD slow would be unfair; they weren't just slow, they were mind-numbing. The zombies gradually became less important and the departure of showrunner Frank Darabont was really felt as the show lost a little of its darkness and seemed to become more of a soap opera.

At the time, season two was quite warmly-received by critics but is now looked back on as one of the show's weakest periods. Ratings have declined over the last couple of years but TWD remains one of the most popular shows around with a ninth season set to start this October.
