10 TV Shows That Switched Main Characters
7. Homeland
When Homeland first aired, there was no individual lead character. Instead, the show had two key main antagonists: Carrie Matheson (Claire Danes) and Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis). The early plot has Matheson, a CIA officer, tasked with uncovering a potential double-agent that is plotting a terrorist attack in the heart of America. Brody, a Marine that had just been retrieved from the captivity of Al-Qaeda, is her prime suspect.
Her suspicion of him turns out to be correct: Brody had planned to assassinate the Vice President by detonating a suicide vest but faltered after a conversation with his daughter.
Brody adapts to living in the United States once more, but after a terrorist attack is carried out on Langley - the headquarters of the CIA - the blame is pinned on the former Marine, and Matheson must work to prove his innocence. After completing a dangerous assignment for the CIA - the assassination of Iranian Intelligence Chief, Danesh Akbari, so that the CIA may replace him with one of their own assets - Brody is captured and publicly executed by the Iran military.
Homeland creator Alex Gansa claimed that Brody was always going to be killed off, but they became sure that Homeland would survive the death of one of its two leading characters due to the strength of Carrie Matheson's premise.
