7th Heaven was an American family drama series that premiered on The WB in 1996. The show tells the story of a Protestant minister named Eric Camden living in the fictional town of Glenoak, California, focusing primarily on his family and their life together.

7th Heaven lasted ten whole seasons before its ratings became too low to justify the cost of making the show. In 2005 it was announced that its tenth season was to be 7th Heaven's last.

After being on the air for such a long time, it had become pretty clear that the show had run its course. There wasn't enough momentum to propel it to an eleventh season. Or so The WB thought, anyways. On top of that, the finale was frequently advertised as the show's last ever episode.

When the season ten finale aired, however, it received way more viewers than anyone had anticipated. At the start, most fans thought the show had received increased attention simply because it was ending, never expecting that attention to justify more new episodes. But then it happened: The WB revived the show for another season.

In the end, this proved to be a rather misguided idea. Season eleven's ratings dipped substantially leading to the show finally ending. Still, it's interesting that a single episode can make or break a TV show's chances of coming back.
