Gilmore Girls is a comedy-drama series that was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and originally debuted in 2000. The show follows single mother Lorelai Gilmore (played by Lauren Graham) and her daughter Rory, both of whom live in the fictional town of Stars Hollow in Connecticut.

It didn't take long for the show to garner a passionate following, with critics praising the show for its witty dialogue and pop-culture integration. Unfortunately, the merging of the show's original network UPN with WB, and the new network's subsequent re-branding as The CW, led to creator Sherman-Palladino failing to reach a transitional agreement. Not long after, in May 2007, The CW announced the series would not be renewed.

Despite talk of a film which might better wrap up the show (many fans were left disappointed with how the series ended, since Season 7 went ahead without Sherman-Palladino), nothing concrete was confirmed until almost a decade after its cancellation. Long after hope had been given up, it was established that an agreement had been reached with Netflix to put out another season consisting of four, ninety minute long episodes. This new iteration of the show is titled Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life and is due to release at the end of this week, hopefully providing fans the closure they desire (and early critical reaction is mostly positive).
