10 TV Shows That Worked Despite Their Absurd Premise

6. The Good Place

It’s a question that has plagued the human race forever, and will continue to do so until the end of time. What happens to us when we die? The Good Place had its own vision, building from the idea that there is a good place (Heaven), and a bad place (Hell, obviously).

When Eleanor died after living a not-so-virtuous life as a saleswoman, she was seemingly sent to the good place as a case of mistaken identity, with the first season of the show following her attempts to conceal who she really was.

There are a lot of huge twists that have rocked TV shows, but the revelation that Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason had actually been in the bad place all along, and that Michael had been a demon all along, was huge! Everything shifted, and all of a sudden the entire premise of the show changed.

Instead of trying to keep herself in the good place, Eleanor now tried to get herself out of the bad place before finally accepting that it was time to move onto a whole new level of afterlife.
