10 TV Shows To Watch If You Love Buffy The Vampire Slayer

9. Dollhouse

While the oft-rumoured Faith the Vampire Slayer never materialised, we did still get another team-up between Eliza Dushku and Mutant Enemy. Dollhouse is often considered one of Whedon's failed series along with the one season wonder Firefly. Coming in at just 2 seasons, Dollhouse was met with controversy and confusion at the time of release. Drastically different to previous Whedonverse shows, its dark, malleable-memory storylines build slowly. It's worth the wait as they often explode into jaw-dropping twists in later instalments.

The series is lead by Echo, an Active (an individual who can be programmed with new personalities and skills for different situations) gradually regaining her self-awareness. Chock full of instant character transformations, memory wipes and existential dread, Dollhouse touches on similar themes to later series such as Westworld.

Unconventional and complicated, Dollhouse has garnered a cult following over the years. While some viewers considered Echo the anti-Buffy due to her initial lack of wits and empowerment, the series ultimately takes a far deeper dive into themes of feminism, power, morality and identity. An intriguing, thought-provoking series with a lot on its mind, Dollhouse is worth a gander.
