10 TV Shows To Watch If You Love Buffy The Vampire Slayer
8. Riverdale
This CW high school favourite's an especially successful descendant of teen dramas like The O.C., Dawson's Creek and Beverly Hills 90210. While principle cast members behave more akin to Contance Billard students than those of Sunnydale High, their dialogue is straight out of Buffy thanks to the endless pop cultural references, callbacks and witticisms.
While presenting a perfect town on the surface, the series explores an underbelly of darkness pervading its idyllic image. Despite lacking uber-polite mayors becoming giant snakes or surprise sisters conjured out of energy keys, Riverdale still holds some supernatural and spooky themes. The style in which they're presented is a little more subtle and in line with earlier instalments of Twin Peaks than the in-your-face attitude of Buffy.
The series features a colourful cast of figures adapted from Archie Comics including Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones. It's a clever, self-aware take on the source material that manages to be both humorous and eery in equal measure. With a season 5 on the way and a monumental following worldwide, don't expect Riverdale to go anywhere any time soon.
