10 TV Shows Utterly Ruined By Their Final Revelations
7. 24 - Jack Becomes A Russian Prisoner
Though 24 is currently in the process of getting its second reboot without venerable hero Jack Bauer (Keifer Sutherland), the original Bauer run ended with 2014's London-set mini-series Live Another Day.
Because the writers clearly didn't expect it to be Bauer's final outing, the season ended on a cliffhanger, with Jack's pal Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) being randomly kidnapped by Russians in the show's final moments, and Jack subsequently handing himself over in order to secure Chloe's freedom.
Though at the time it was a compelling-ish hook for another season, the fact that it's never going to be resolved sours it in retrospect. Doesn't a beloved hero like Bauer deserve a far better fate than being confined to a Russian prison forever more?
The writers did in fact flirt with Bauer sacrificing himself to save Chloe in the finale - something Sutherland himself angled for - but high-up Fox execs sadly nixed the idea.
While there is a small sliver of hope that 24 could be revived one day, especially if the upcoming female-led reboot tanks, it's best to keep your expectations low and just accept the depressing truth: Jack Bauer probably died a depressing. un-heroic death in a dingy Russian prison.
