The Basics: Sam and Dean Winchester save the world on a yearly - if not daily - basis. These two brothers are hunters, a sect of people who kill or contain the big baddies from affecting the rest of civilization. Saving us from all manner of demons, monsters and even rogue Angels, the brothers have been the ire of Satan himself, whom they've actually defeated. From Leviathans to Angels, this current story arc has had many twists and turns. Starting with the death of their mentor, Bobby Singer, Supernatural has gotten better story-wise and action-wise. With nearly all the Angels cast out of Heaven at the end of Season 8, things were looking especially bleak for Sam and Dean. The Turn Up: As mentioned, with the death of Bobby, the show has dramatically increased the interpersonal stakes between the Winchesters and their Angel ally, Castiel. But with Sam on the mend from his failed quest to close the Gates of Hell forever, Dean pulls a Hail Mary and lets an Angel possess Sam so that his body can be healed. But a funny thing happened on the way to the Pearly Gates: Metatron is not done with the Angels and Castiel has managed to get some Grace (the source of his powers). At the end of the mid-season finale, we're left to wonder just how things will even get better... or worse as the saying goes. All I can say is, "Balls!"
