Brilliantly portrayed by Alycia Debnam-Carey, Lexa was one of the standout characters in The CW's post-apocalyptic sci-fi show, The 100.

Commander of the Grounder clans, Lexa is portrayed as a strong leader who is fierce in battle and keeps her emotions close to her chest. That's why it was so special when she developed a burgeoning relationship with Clarke Griffin (Kass Morgan).

The romance was praised as one of the most positive same sex pairings on TV. It avoided cliches and presented both women as complex individuals, which was a breath of fresh air for the LGBTQ+ community.

This is why The 100 got serious flack when it decided to kill Lexa off in the show's third season. Fans claimed that she was another victim of the "dead lesbian syndrome", a TV trope that often resulted in homosexual relationships ending in tragedy.

Viewers were desperate for The 100 to buck this trend and were left thoroughly disappointed when it didn't. The relationship between Lexa and Clarke was barely getting started when the former was killed off, leaving plenty of fans wondering what might have happened to the pair had they been allowed to continue.
