10 TV Side Characters We Loved More Than The Main Character
6. Grogu - The Mandalorian
The Star Wars franchise has a galaxy that's bursting at the seam with interesting characters, as the veteran sci-fi franchise has trucked along for over 40 years and counting. From the plucky cosmic engineer Babu Frik to the menacing Grand Admiral Thrawn, George Lucas' billion-dollar brainchild relies on its people for emotional weight, and the phenomenal Disney+ series The Mandalorian is no exception.
Telling the tale of a stoic bounty hunter's change of heart to protective father as a prized possession is meticulously hunted by what appears to be everyone in the galaxy, The Mandalorian was the streaming service's first big hit, which is due in large part to fans' attachment to Grogu, the creature that Mando swore to protect.
The same race as series icon Yoda, Grogu is decidedly younger than his geriatric doppelganger (though still far older than he looks!), and his unrelenting cuteness is a change from Mando's one-note (lack-of) facial expression and limited emotional range.
Grogu's lack of dialogue means his character is felt through whimpers, squeals and stares. He's the perfect yin to Mando's yang, and easily trumps the titular character in the lovable department.
