10 TV Side Characters We Loved More Than The Main Character

5. Janet - The Good Place

NBC

The Good Place's perplexing plot and kooky characters are difficult to describe to someone who hasn't given the NBC comedy a shot while scrolling through the Netflix app. It's jam-packed with wacky moments and hilarious interactions with a whole host of interesting roles, and though Kristen Bell is the show's main draw, it's the side characters that make The Good Place so worthy of your time.

A vital pillar of the cast is Janet, a programmed assistant designed to make everyone's journey into the Good Place a blissful one. As the show continues, her robotic nature softens, and D'Arcy Carden revels in the role. Bell's take on self-serving-come-morally-righteous Eleanor Shellstrop is, for sure, immense, but Janet's childlike wonder and unyielding happiness makes for the show's most wholesome moments.

From her unlikely romance with bone-headed Jason Mendoza to her journey towards understanding human emotion, Janet's development goes largely unnoticed as other characters' respective journeys take precedent. However, with Janet, we were introduced to an entertaining and profoundly humorous character from the get-go, and when the show concludes a mere four seasons in, the credits roll on a completely different character than we once knew.

No longer a robot, but just as lovable as she's always been.
