10 TV Sitcom Stars Who Couldn't Break The Movies

7. Alyson Hannigan

For a while there, Alyson Hannigan looked like she had it on lock. A few seasons into her successful run on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, she took the role of Michelle, the main love interest in the successful American Pie series. She put in one of the first instalment’s most memorable performances as the not-so-innocent flautist.

As the series continued and the quality diminished, so too did Hannigan’s screen time. As with most of the films of that gross out oeuvre, the writers weren’t really all that interested in the female characters, preferring to focus on the lairy lads and their increasingly lame gags.

Hannigan successfully returned to TV with How I Met Your Mother, and that’s basically been it for the silver screen. There have been a few supporting roles in rom coms you’ve never heard of, some family fare, the inexorable Date Movie (a starring part she, and we, would rather forget).

Hannigan’s part in American Pie remains iconic, but it’s really just the one line we all remember. Unfortunately, she’s a victim of some writerly laziness.
