10 TV Sitcom Stars Who Couldn't Break The Movies

6. David Mitchell

By this point David Mitchell is close to national treasure territory. Peep Show is of course one of the great British sitcoms of the 21st century, and he has further developed himself as an anecdotalist and an inescapable, usually charming TV presence.

His attempts to crack the movies, though, have been somewhat less than successful. He started with what looked like as close to a dead cert as you can get in a low budget comedy: Magicians.

A knockabout movie co-starring his Peep Show partner Robert Webb, and written by two of the beloved series’ creators, it seemed like a surefire hit, cult classic at the very least. Instead, it was a dud, a clear sign that none of those involved were ready to make the jump to the big screen.

Mitchell had a few further tries, generally appearing as his stock in trade bumbling, awkward character to little avail. His role in last year’s Greed was a step in the right direction, but it’s hard to see the once and future Mark Corrigan ever fully committing.
