10 Underhyped TV Shows That Blew Everyone Away

8. Shrill

In Shrill, Saturday Night Live alumnus Aidy Bryant takes the lead, making it her first time leading a live-action television program. The SNL veteran plays Annie Easton, upon whom the show is based.

By all accounts, Shrill is a funny, yet poignant take on being overweight in a culture that deems such a status unacceptable. Bryant is her typical hilarious self, but Shrill gives her the opportunity to show the world what a talented actress she is.

Hulu released a teaser and trailer in advance of the premiere, which was held at the 2019 South by Southwest film festival in Austin, Texas. There was some hype promoting it in the beginning, but Hulu mostly backed it down when word of mouth began to spread.

The series blew viewers and critics away, and Shrill was renewed for a second and third season almost immediately. Shrill certainly has a following, though it should be much larger than it is.
