10 Underhyped TV Shows That Blew Everyone Away

5. The Magicians

The Magicians is one of those shows that's incredibly raunchy and fun, but it's not necessarily something you would recommend to a co-worker or your parents. The series is all about the underworld use of magic, and the magicians that use it to blow stuff up, save the world, and blow up more stuff.

At its core, The Magicians is the story of Quentin Coldwater, an unusual fellow who loves a fictional world written about in children's books. When he finds himself enrolling at Brakebills University for Magical Pedagogy, it doesn't take long before he learns that everything he's always dreamed about was real.

The Magicians aired on SyFy for five seasons consisting of 65 episodes, and while it was well-known to the viewers who watched it, it didn't receive a great deal of hype before it first aired in December 2015. As the series progressed, it began making the rounds online and picked up speed.

The Magicians suffered from consistently low numbers of viewers while earning high marks from critics. Rotten Tomatoes gave the show a 92% rating overall, which is exceptionally high for a show about college-aged magicians based on a relatively obscure novel airing on a niche network.
