10 Unexpected Breakout TV Characters

4. Leo (That '70s Show)

Simpsons Stupid TV Be more funny

Not only does Tommy Chong as Leo belong on a list of unexpected breakout characters, he belongs on a list of the greatest casting decisions in TV history. Bringing him in to play an old, burned out hippie on a show set in the 1970s is a combination that just makes sense together. Like peanut butter and jam.

Leo started as a recurring character but almost immediately stole fans' hearts. He was charmingly absent minded and always funny, plus he played a key part in filling in for Hyde's missing father alongside Red Forman. It's hard not to wonder what would have happened had Chong not missed a couple of seasons due to jail time.
