These two have what is undeniable one of the closest sibling bonds we've ever seen on television, almost so much so that you might even want them to cut the cord a little bit. Branch out, see other people. Sam and Dean give off the vibe that if one of them gets a paper cut, the other can feel it. There's a reason why so many fans write Wincest fan fiction -- there's such an emotional connection there that it could almost be confused with romantic love (if they weren't brothers, that is). They've proven time and time again that they value their own lives far less than they do their brother's, and they've literally died for each other (repeatedly, because this is Supernatural, where everything's made up and the deaths don't matter). While this isn't exactly the recipe for a healthy sibling relationship in real life, on television it creates an engaging dynamic between Sam and Dean that keeps the stakes perpetually high. Each believes that they are nothing without the other, especially Dean, who seems to have been born and bred to protect Sammy at all costs, and if he can't do that he's useless and might as well kill himself. Thanks Dad, for that emotional baggage.
