10 Unique TV Episodes That You Must See

7. Ozark - Kaleidoscope

Bojack Horseman
Netflix

An episode in a completely random order.

Flashbacks have long been a hallmark of television. In its first season, Ozark had a lot of backstory to explore and not much time left - so they crammed it all into one confusing, disorientating hour. Kaleidoscope presents a series of short, sequences all taken place at some point in the past, but in no particular order. Not chronological and not in reverse.

Not following the individual characters. It's almost as if they used an algorithm to produce an entirely random sequence of events.

It follows Marty and Wendy Byrde as they grapple with the decision to launder money for the Navarro drug cartel as well as a side plot involving Agent Petty's history. It's a jarring format and one that requires you to pay close attention to small contextual hints.

Critics have been divided on whether it was a worthwhile venture - whether the individual story-lines stand up strongly on their own. But the concept is so unique that it manages to be incredibly engaging to the viewer as we try to piece everything together like a jigsaw.
