10 Unlikely Characters Who'd Be Perfect For Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

7. M'Ress

M'ress is yet another TAS character who fans would enjoy seeing on the regular crew. Like Arex, she was a crew member brought in to make up for the absence of Chekov in the animated series. And like her long necked counterpart, she hasn't been utilized since.

Here is a chance to not only let this character transition to live action but to give her opportunities to become more fully developed as a character. The Enterprise is a big ship, it makes sense that she could have been assigned there for years and perhaps even spent much of her career aboard the ship before ending up as the auxiliary communications officer. Wrath of Khan implies this to be the case for other officers, such as Chekov who was on the ship and encountered Khan sometime prior to being assigned to the bridge.

When Strange New Worlds takes place, Lieutenant M'ress would probably still be an ensign and likely new to her assignment. Following the story of a fresh young non-human academy graduate as she tries to find her place among a crew who are mostly human would be compelling. It would also offer the younger Spock a chance to take on a protege.

M'ress coming back now makes a lot of sense because there will be a prominent Caitian character in the new animated series, Lower Decks. It would be fitting for the original Caitian to finally get her proper due.
