10 ‘Unsolved’ Mysteries From Lost (That Have Really Simple Answers)

4. What Was The Deal With The Polar Bear?

Polar BearThe Mystery: This is a mystery that was solved in the show pretty comprehensively, but as it€™s one Lost cynics will always ask fans if it ever got solved it€™s worth giving it some focus. The big mystery of the Pilot, aside from what was the monster in the jungle, was why there was Polar Bear on a tropical island. Laying dormant for a good couple of years, many people state this delayed solution as a reason the show lost them, but in reality it was easily solvable long before the epilogue gave a definitive answer. The Simple Solution: Dharma brought them to Island to experiment electromagnetism on. The answer to this seems to have changed over the course of the show. Season 1 hinted Walt brought it to the Island after reading Hurley€™s comic, but once the show's general direction changed so did the answer changed. When Sawyer is captured by the Others they put them in a cage originally inhabited by a polar bear, which explained the physical why, if not the reasoning. But by Season 4 it was wrapped up. Early on Charlotte found a polar bear skeleton, complete with Dharma collar in the desert and come the finale we learnt the frozen donkey wheel had the ability to teleport things off the Island, from which can be concisely concluded Dharma were using the bears to experiment the effects of electromagnetism on.
