There are few video games more celebrated than Naughty Dog's 2013 post-apocalyptic smash hit The Last Of Us, thanks to its compelling story, meaningful character development and rich subtext. The game was specifically developed around the pairing and relationship of Joel, a rough, gruff survivor who has lost his daughter, and Ellie, a teenage girl who may hold the secret to their survival, and it really shows in the twists, turns and emotional punches of the narrative.

Given all of this, it makes sense that someone would want to turn it into a TV show.

And who better for the job than Pedro Pascal, as Joel, and another Game Of Thrones alumnus, Bella Ramsey, as Ellie. Led by Craig Mazin, who made waves with 2019's Chernobyl, this show promises impressive returns, and is set to debut in early 2023.

And, if it's anything like the game, there will be mutant-based horror aplenty, including not just the immediate spooks of seat-wetting jump-scares, but the long, tension-based slow burns that keep you glued to the screen in spite of your better judgement.
