Hellraiser has been off the boil for many years now, failing to capitalise on either its cult following or potential mainstream appeal, with a string of unremarkable and cheaply made movies that have flown under the radar in recent years.

With David Gordon Green in the director's chair (at least for the first few episodes), the show is set to shed the mixed mythology established in the direct-to-video franchise entries and return to the source in a soft reboot reminiscent of Green's recent Halloween films.

At the same time, David Bruckner will be leading a reboot of the franchise for cinema, with Jamie Clayton in the role of Pinhead. First we get a new man queen here in the UK, and now a female Pinhead... Whatever next?

Though the show will be coming to HBO and is set for arrival sometime in 2023, details regarding plot, cast and release date are currently thin on the ground. Given Green's dedication to continuity, however, there is a suggestion that we may see the return of Doug Bradley as the priest of hell himself.
