10 Upcoming TV Shows That Are Already Doomed

Let's be honest, in the streaming era's never-ending push to mine old glories for new content, it was just a matter of time before Warner Bros. announced that a TV adaptation of the Harry Potter books was in the works.

For all their flaws, the eight Potter movies were largely terrific adaptations of J.K. Rowling's beloved fantasy novels, and so rather than use them as a leaping-off point to further explore the Wizarding World, Warner Bros. is simply doing it all over again for their streaming service Max.

Even if you generously point out that an episodic TV format potentially gives the showrunners more space to flesh out the books, the series faces an extremely steep, potentially insurmountable climb finding actors to live up to the legacy of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Alan Rickman, Michael Gambon, and so on.

And even if they do, there's the enormous logistical complication of adaptating seven books into a TV show while keeping the cast age-appropriate.

Plus, with the nagging tendency for mega-budget series to ditch the season-per-year format of yore, it's going to be a major headache getting this thing shot and aired in a timely fashion.

Who, honestly, asked for this? While many will surely tune in out of curiosity for at least a few episodes, the probability that it just feels like an ersatz, elongated version of the movies is extremely high.
