10 US Adaptations Of UK TV Shows That Didn't Make It Past The Pilot
8. Gavin & Stacey
James Corden may have had a lucky break over in the States, landing himself a cushy late-night talk show, but the show that kickstarted his career didn't fare quite as well.
Gavin & Stacey took the UK by storm, quickly receiving a promotion from BBC3 to BBC1 after the first season. The show ran for three seasons and like most BBC comedies, was given a couple of Christmas specials both during its run and almost a decade after its finale.
The 2019 special was a ratings explosion, gaining the honour of being the highest rated, non-sporting TV event in a decade, as well as the highest rated comedy show in seventeen years.
When it came to taking the show to America though, it wasn't quite the hit everyone hoped for. Three different networks have attempted to bring the show to a new audience, with NBC and ABC dropping the show very quickly after unsuccessful pilots.
Fox however, managed to get some traction on the project, ordering a thirteen-episode season, though that was quickly dropped to just seven episodes. Then, just a year later, Fox dropped the show entirely, leaving the seven episodes that were already filmed unaired.
