10 US Adaptations Of UK TV Shows That Didn't Make It Past The Pilot

7. Friday Night Dinner

After the staggering success of The Inbetweeners, everyone wondered what was next for the four unlucky lads now that the show was over. Unfortunately, the answer for most of them is nothing much, but Simon Bird had a lucky break when it came to his next Channel 4 comedy.

Friday Night Dinner offered a rare glimpse into the lives of a British, Jewish family as well as some of their eccentric neighbours.

It became a smash hit that's still going strong having recently finished its sixth series which doubled its ratings to 4.7 million viewers. The show has been nominated for multiple BAFTA's and given its success, seems perfect for an American adaption.

However, not even The US Office creator Greg Daniels could pull this one off. Teaming up with regular The Office director Ken Kwapis, the two put together an episode for NBC, managing to bring together the outstanding talents of Allison Janney and Tony Shalhoub. Despite their best efforts, NBC passed on the series.

As the show's popularity grew, CBS decided to take a stab at it with two attempts in 2014 and 2016. Neither attempt worked out and talks of an adaptation have been left behind.
