10 US Adaptations Of UK TV Shows That Sucked

6. Life On Mars

Life on Mars was not, in fact, a show about life on Mars. Despite what the title would make you think, the show focussed on a policeman from Manchester, who was hit by a car and woke up over forty years before the incident. Despite the surprise time travel, he still works in the same building for the Police.

What follows is a surprisingly grounded show that went on to win both critical and fan acclaim, alongside plenty of awards. Our protagonist spends his time dealing with his day to day life while also trying to find a way to get home.

However, the mystery of what exactly happened to Sam Tyler remained a mystery, leaving fans to debate if the show was Tyler's afterlife, a coma dream or if he really did manage to travel back in time.

The US version didn't do too bad when it came to replicating the premise, but then, somehow, it went horribly wrong. It favoured well in the ratings, but in terms of quality? Yikes. Someone even had the idea to including an explanation for Tyler's situation, taking the title way too seriously and ending the series with the revelation that Tyler is in fact, from Mars.
