10 Voice-Actor Deaths That Impacted The Simpsons

7. Paul Winfield (1939-2004)

Paulwinfield1 Academy- and Emmy-Award nominated actor Paul Winfield played boxing promoter Lucius Sweet ("He's exactly as rich and as famous as Don King, and he looks just like him!") in two separate episodes. First, in Season 8's "Homer They Fall," Lucius greets Moe in Moe's office/women's bathroom to negotiate a boxing match between Drederick Tatum and Homer, hoping Homer's ability to take punches would create three-rounds of boxing (Homer lasted less than one minute in the first round, when Moe airlifted Homer from the ring to safety.) Winfield's second appearance was in the ninth season's "The Trouble With Trillions," as Lucius can be seen dabbing the sweat from his forehead with cash as he awaits an I.R.S. audit. ("This is an agregious miscarriagement of taxitude!") Drederick Tatum has been seen many, many times since his infamous match with Homer "The Southern Dandy" Simpson. His manager, however, has not. While the real-life Don King has since disappeared from the limelight, his iconic image remains, and Lucius Sweet could have successfully shown up alongside Tatum any time the boxer has made an appearance. Unfortunately for Springfield's boxing fans, Winfield passed away after a lifelong battle with obesity and diabetes in 2004 after suffering a heart attack.
