Babylon 5 and Deep Space Nine were about different alien races trying to get along, though some put more effort in than others.

Starfleet was invited to the station then known at Terok Nor in the wake of the Cardassians ending their occupation of Bajor. The Cardassians were an aggressive, arrogant race that oppressed the Bajorans, stripping all the resources they could from their planet and killing millions of people in the process.

Babylon 5 was built by Earth Alliance for entirely different reasons, but the relationship between the Centauri and the Narn was similar to that of the Cardassians and the Bajorans. The Centauri victimized the religious and artistic Narn for years.

Both the Bajorans and the Narn fought back, transformed into warriors by necessity, eventually overthrowing their oppressors. The ending of the Centauri and Cardassians is similar, as well. Both species were played by the dark forces of their galaxies, leaving their worlds in fire and rubble buy the time each series was done.
