10 Ways Babylon 5 & Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Are Basically The Same Show

3. War

The ongoing, serialized story that typified both series hinged on the oldest of narratives; war.

On Deep Space Nine, first it was the threat of the Dominion, the evil version of the Federation from the other side of the wormhole. Run by the xenophobic Changelings, the goal of the Dominion was the subjugation of all species under their rule. This battle impacted the Federation as well as a litany of key Alpha Quadrant players, including the Klingons, the Romulans, the Bajorans, the Cardassians and more.

Babylon 5 was no different. The Second Shadow War dragged in pretty much everyone around that part of the galaxy, a war to end all wars. Species the Shadows were manipulating were pitted against those influenced by the Vorlons.

The endgame for each war was roughly the same, with the respective alliances of the good guys coming out on top. Those species that aligned with the bad guys were left in ruins and working to rebuild. War is certainly not a unique story only to these two shows but the similarities between them is undeniable.
