10 Ways Buffy The Vampire Slayer Was Almost Totally Different

8. Angel's Character Was Originally Much Smaller

David Boreanaz's character Angel quickly became iconic in the late 90s for his dark and mysterious take on the 18th century vampire. But Angel wasn't always planned to be the character we know him as, in fact he wasn't planned at all.

The writers of Buffy actually had no clue what to do with Boreanaz, at first he was supposed to be a small character that only appeared in the pilot to give Buffy advice and to act strange for comedic effect. But the response to the character and Boreanaz's likeability meant that the character kept getting written into more and more episodes.

Many different storylines were considered for the character of Angel, including him ACTUALLY being a fallen angel that's been locked out of heaven until he does enough good deeds to get his wings back. Thank god they didn't go with that cliché plot.

Angel's real backstory and character reveal of being a vampire was not actually decided upon until it was literally written into the script. This all sounds crazy when you find out that Angel was in the most episodes of any character in the Buffyverse.

Lily thought it was about time she wrote Top Ten lists for people other than herself. She also owes her dog a lot of money so she thought it was about time to pay her dues. There is no tv show she likes that she hasn't seen at least twice.
